Organizational Leadership
Artifact 1 -Book Review "Who is Nayib Bukele?
This artifact is a book review for PA6665, Organizational Leadership, that examines the leadership style and innovative approaches of Nayib Bukele as presented in the book "Who is Nayib Bukele?" by Geovani Galeas (2019). This artifact identifies and applies core course concepts from Bolman and Deal's Four Frames of Leadership—structural, human resource, political, and symbolic (Bolman & Deal, 2017).
The review highlights Bukele's leadership in implementing structural reforms, enhancing transparency and accountability, and utilizing technology and data-driven decision-making in governance. These aspects align with the structural frame, which focuses on organizational design, roles, and processes. Bukele’s administration has implemented various digital initiatives, such as providing free Wi-Fi in public spaces and establishing digital platforms for government services (Galeas, 2019). This demonstrates a clear emphasis on improving organizational efficiency and effectiveness.
Bukele's ability to connect with the public through direct communication channels, particularly social media, reflects the human resource frame, emphasizing the importance of relationships, motivation, and empowerment. Bukele uses platforms like Twitter to engage directly with the population, share updates, and make announcements, allowing him to build a personal connection with the citizens and foster trust and loyalty (Galeas, 2019).
The political frame is demonstrated through Bukele's strategic use of power and political maneuvers to overcome resistance and drive change. His anti-corruption stance and efforts to target public officials involved in bribery and embezzlement illustrate his ability to navigate the political landscape and mobilize resources to achieve his goals (Galeas, 2019). This frame emphasizes the dynamics of power, conflict, and coalitions within organizations.
His charismatic personality and public engagement strategies embody the symbolic frame, where leadership is seen as a stage for conveying meaning and purpose through rituals, stories, and symbols. Bukele's populist appeal and his use of slogans like "El dinero alcanza cuando nadie roba" (Money is enough when no one steals) resonate deeply with the public, reinforcing his image as a leader committed to combating corruption and promoting social change (Galeas, 2019).
This assignment increased my knowledge of leadership frameworks by allowing me to critically analyze Bukele's leadership style using Bolman and Deal's Four Frames. It provided a comprehensive understanding of how different leadership approaches can drive significant progress and transformation in a political context. The review also draws parallels between Bukele's leadership and my personal experiences in the Small Business Development Center, highlighting the importance of visionary leadership, effective resource allocation, and adaptability.
This artifact demonstrates the knowledge learned throughout this course by illustrating my ability to connect course concepts with real-world examples and critically evaluate different leadership styles. It reflects a deep understanding of leadership dynamics and the impact of innovative strategies on organizational success. This assignment has changed my perspective on leadership and provided me with valuable insights into the importance of adaptability, strategic communication, and the effective use of technology in leadership roles.

Artifact 2 -Video Review: "Lincoln"
This artifact is a video review for PA6665, Organizational Leadership, that analyzes the film "Lincoln" (Spielberg, 2012). The analysis focuses on Abraham Lincoln's leadership style, employing Bolman and Deal's Four Frames of Leadership—structural, human resource, political, and symbolic (Bolman & Deal, 2017).
The Structural Frame emphasizes the formal roles and processes within an organization. In "Lincoln," this frame is evident in the portrayal of the political system and the hierarchical structure of government. Lincoln's strategic maneuvers to pass the Thirteenth Amendment illustrate his ability to navigate and manipulate formal structures to achieve his goals.
The Human Resource Frame focuses on the importance of people within organizations, highlighting collaboration, communication, and relationship-building. Lincoln's ability to inspire and motivate his team, including key political figures like Secretary of State William Seward, demonstrates the application of this frame. His genuine concern for his team and his skill in communicating a compelling vision mobilized them toward the common goal of passing the amendment.
The Political Frame deals with power dynamics, competing interests, and strategies within the political arena. The film depicts Lincoln's adept use of political tactics, including lobbying and negotiation, to secure votes for the amendment. This frame highlights Lincoln's strategic use of power and his ability to navigate the complexities of political conflict.
The Symbolic Frame involves using symbols, stories, and rituals to inspire and unite people. Lincoln's speeches and public appearances serve as powerful symbols of freedom and equality. His use of the Emancipation Proclamation and the Thirteenth Amendment as symbols of progress and justice underscores the importance of symbolism in leadership.
This assignment increased my understanding of leadership by allowing me to analyze Lincoln's actions through the lens of Bolman and Deal's Four Frames. The film serves as a case study in transformational leadership, showcasing Lincoln's ability to inspire and mobilize others through vision, perseverance, and strategic communication. Additionally, Lincoln exhibits adaptive leadership, as described by Heifetz and Linsky (2002), by navigating the complexities of the Civil War and promoting innovation and learning within his team.
Lincoln's leadership style also aligns with Jim Collins' concept of Level 5 Leadership, which combines personal humility with professional will (Collins, 2001). This leadership style is characterized by a leader's ability to channel their ego away from themselves and into the larger goal of building a great organization. Lincoln's selfless commitment to abolishing slavery and preserving the Union exemplifies this leadership style, prioritizing the organization's success over personal ambition. His authentic leadership is evident in his adherence to principles and integrity, even amidst political maneuvering and challenging circumstances. Lincoln's unique ability to balance humility and fierce resolve highlights the transformative power of Level 5 Leadership in achieving significant and lasting change.
The review also connects course concepts to practical applications by drawing parallels between Lincoln's leadership and my experiences in the Small Business Development Center. It highlights the importance of visionary leadership, effective resource allocation, and adaptability in achieving organizational goals.
This artifact demonstrates the knowledge gained in PA6665 by illustrating the practical application of leadership theories. It reflects a deep understanding of how different leadership styles can drive significant progress and transformation within organizations. This assignment has provided valuable insights into the importance of adaptability, strategic communication, and the effective use of symbolism in leadership roles.
